كريمعِبَارَتُنَا الرَّئِيسِيَّةُ الْيَوْمَ هِيَ: نَطْبُخُ الْعَشَاءَ مَعًا.Our main phrase today is: We cook dinner together.

ليلىوَنَسْتَمِعُ أَيْضًا إِلَى قِصَّةٍ طَرِيفَةٍ وَمَعْلُومَةٍ عَنْ الطَّبْخِ فِي التَّارِيخ.And we also listen to an amusing story and information about cooking in history.

كريمهَلْ هُنَاكَ كِتَابٌ قَدِيمٌ عَنْ الطَّبْخِ فِي مَدِينَةِ بَغْدَاد؟Is there an ancient book about cooking in the city of Baghdad?

ليلىفِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ الْمَاضِي، دَعَوْتُ صَدِيقَتِي إِلَى بَيْتِي.Last Friday, I invited my friend to my house.

كريموَمَاذَا فَعَلْتِ عِنْدَمَا وَصَلَتْ صَدِيقَتُكِ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ يَا لَيْلَى؟And what did you do when your friend arrived at the house Layla?

ليلىقُلْتُ لَهَا بِفَرَح: تَعَالَيْ، نَطْبُخُ الْعَشَاءَ مَعًا اللَّيْلَة.I said to her with joy: Come, we cook dinner together tonight.

كريموَهَلْ كَانَ الْمَطْبَخُ جَاهِزًا لِلطَّبْخِ فِي ذٰلِكَ الْوَقْت؟And was the kitchen ready for cooking at that time?

ليلىنَعَم، دَخَلْنَا الْمَطْبَخَ وَبَدَأْنَا الْعَمَلَ بِنَشَاطٍ وَسُرُور.Yes, we entered the kitchen and started work with energy and pleasure.

كريموَمَا هُوَ الطَّبَقُ الَّذِي اخْتَرْتِ إِعْدَادَهُ فِي الْمَطْبَخ؟And what is the dish that you chose to prepare in the kitchen?

ليلىأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُعِدَّ حَسَاءَ الْخُضَارِ مَعَ الأَرُزِّ الدَّافِئ.I wanted to prepare vegetable soup with warm rice.

كريمهٰذَا طَبَقٌ صِحِّيٌّ وَشَهِيٌّ جِدًّا لِوَجْبَةِ الْعَشَاء!That is a healthy and very delicious dish for the dinner meal!

ليلىنَعَم، وَقُلْتُ لِصَدِيقَتِي: أَنَا أُعِدُّ الطَّعَامَ، وَأَنْتِ تُسَاعِدِينَنِي.Yes, and I said to my friend: I prepare the food, and you help me.

كريموَمَاذَا طَلَبْتِ مِنْهَا أَنْ تَفْعَلَ فِي الْبِدَايَة؟And what did you ask her to do at the beginning?

ليلىقُلْتُ لَهَا: نَحْنُ نَقْطَعُ الْخُضَارَ أَوَّلًا بِالسِّكِّينِ الصَّغِير.I said to her: We chop the vegetables first with the small knife.

كريموَهَلْ قَطَّعَتْ هِيَ الْبَصَلَ وَالطَّمَاطِمَ فِي الْمَطْبَخ؟And did she chop the onions and tomatoes in the kitchen?

ليلىنَعَم، بَدَأَتْ تَقْطَعُ الْبَصَلَ، وَفَجْأَةً بَدَأَتْ تَبْكِي كَثِيرًا!Yes, she started chopping onions, and suddenly she started crying a lot!

كريمهَهَهَا! الْبَصَلُ يَجْعَلُ الْجَمِيعَ يَبْكُونَ عِنْدَ التَّقْطِيعِ دَائِمًا!Hahaha! Onions make everyone cry when cutting always!

ليلىصَحِيح، ثُمَّ جَاءَ دَوْرِي لِوَضْعِ التَّوَابِلِ فِي الْقِدْر.True, then my turn came to put the spices in the pot.

كريموَمَاذَا وَضَعْتِ فِي الْقِدْرِ الْكَبِيرِ يَا لَيْلَى؟And what did you put in the big pot Layla?

ليلىقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي: أَنَا أَضَعُ الْمِلْحَ الآنَ بِعِنَايَة.I said to myself: I put the salt now carefully.

كريموَهَلْ كَانَ الْمِلْحُ مَوْجُودًا فِي عُلْبَةٍ صَغِيرَةٍ بَيْضَاء؟And was the salt present in a small white box?

ليلىنَعَم، لٰكِنِّي أَخَذْتُ عُلْبَةَ السُّكَّرِ بِالْخَطَأِ الْكَبِير!Yes, but I took the box of sugar by a big mistake!

كريميَا إِلهِي! هَلْ وَضَعْتِ السُّكَّرَ بَدَلَ الْمِلْحِ فِي الْحَسَاء؟Oh dear! Did you put sugar instead of salt in the soup?

ليلىنَعَم، وَضَعْتُ مِلْعَقَتَيْنِ كَبِيرَتَيْنِ مِنَ السُّكَّرِ فِي الْقِدْر!Yes, I put two big spoons of sugar in the pot!

كريمهَهَهَا! حَسَاءُ خُضَارٍ حُلْو! هٰذَا مَوْقِفٌ مُضْحِكٌ جِدًّا.Hahaha! Sweet vegetable soup! That is a very funny situation.

ليلىتَذَوَّقَتْ صَدِيقَتِي الْحَسَاءَ، وَضَحِكَتْ مِنْ قَلْبِهَا كَثِيرًا.My friend tasted the soup, and laughed from her heart a lot.

كريموَكَيْفَ قُمْتِ بِحَلِّ الْمَوْقِفِ الصَّعْبِ فِي الْمَطْبَخ؟And how did you resolve the difficult situation in the kitchen?

ليلىغَسَلْنَا قِدْرًا جَدِيدًا، وَقُلْنَا: نَطْبُخُ الْعَشَاءَ مَعًا مِنْ جَدِيد!We washed a new pot, and we said: We cook dinner together anew!

كريمهٰذَا رَائِع! الْمُحَاوَلَةُ مِنْ جَدِيدٍ أَمْرٌ مُمْتَازٌ جِدًّا.That is wonderful! Trying again is a very excellent thing.

ليلىفِي النِّهَايَة، أَكَلْنَا بِفَرَحٍ وَقُلْنَا: الطَّعَامُ لَذِيذٌ جِدًّا!In the end, we ate with joy and said: The food is very delicious!

كريموَمَنْ قَامَ بِتَنْظِيفِ الْمَطْبَخِ بَعْدَ الأَكْلِ يَا لَيْلَى؟And who did the cleaning of the kitchen after eating Layla?

ليلىقُلْتُ لِصَدِيقَتِي بِلُطْف: أَنَا أَغْسِلُ الأَطْبَاقَ وَأَنْتِ تَرْتَاحِين.I said to my friend gently: I wash the dishes and you rest.

كريمهٰذَا كَرَمٌ وَحُسْنُ ضِيَافَةٍ جَمِيلٌ مِنْكِ يَا لَيْلَى.That is generosity and beautiful good hospitality from you Layla.

ليلىشُكْرًا! وَالآن، هَلْ تَعْلَمُ الْمَعْلُومَةَ عَنْ كِتَابِ الطَّبِيخ؟Thank you! And now, do you know the information about the book of cooking?

كريمنَعَم، سَمِعْتُ عَنْ هٰذَا الْكِتَابِ التَّارِيخِيِّ الْقَدِيم.Yes, I heard about this ancient historical book.

ليلىأَلَّفَ مُحَمَّد بْن الْحَسَن الْبَغْدَادِي هٰذَا الْكِتَابَ فِي بَغْدَاد.Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi authored this book in Baghdad.

كريمفِي أَيِّ قَرْنٍ كُتِبَ ذٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ يَا لَيْلَى؟In which century was that book written Layla?

ليلىكَانَ ذٰلِكَ فِي الْقَرْنِ الثَّالِثَ عَشَرَ الْمِيلاَدِيّ.That was in the thirteenth century AD.

كريموَمَاذَا كَتَبَ فِيهِ عَنِ الطَّعَامِ وَالْمَأْكُولاَت؟And what did he write in it about food and dishes?

ليلىكَتَبَ عَنْ وَصَفَاتٍ كَثِيرَةٍ لِلطَّهْيِ وَإِعْدَادِ الْوَجَبَات.He wrote about many recipes for cooking and preparing meals.

كريموَكَيْفَ كَانَ النَّاسُ يَجْتَمِعُونَ حَوْلَ مَائِدَةِ الطَّعَام؟And how did people gather around the food table?

ليلىكَانَ الْعَرَبُ يُحِبُّونَ إِكْرَامَ الضَّيْفِ وَالأَكْلَ مَعَ الأَهْل.Arabs loved honoring the guest and eating with family.

كريمالْكَرَمُ وَإِعْدَادُ الطَّعَامِ جُزْءٌ كَبِيرٌ مِنْ ثَقَافَتِنَا.Generosity and food preparation are a big part of our culture.

ليلىنَعَم، وَحَتَّى الْيَوْم، نَفْرَحُ عِنْدَمَا نَطْبُخُ مَعًا فِي الْبَيْت.Yes, and even today, we rejoice when we cook together at home.

كريمهٰذِهِ مَعْلُومَةٌ تَارِيخِيَّةٌ قَيِّمَةٌ وَمُمْتِعَةٌ جِدًّا!This is valuable and very enjoyable historical information!

ليلىالآنَ، نَسْتَعْرِضُ الْعِبَارَاتِ السِّتَّ مَعَ الشَّرْحِ الْبَسِيط.Now, we review the six phrases with simple explanation.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ الأُولَى هِيَ: نَطْبُخُ الْعَشَاءَ مَعًا.The first phrase is: We cook dinner together.

ليلىهٰذِهِ الْعِبَارَةُ تَعْنِي أَنَّنَا نُعِدُّ وَجْبَةَ الْمَسَاءِ فِي الْمَطْبَخ.This phrase means that we prepare the evening meal in the kitchen.

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ هِيَ: أُعِدُّ الطَّعَامَ.And the second phrase is: I prepare the food.

ليلىنَقُولُ أُعِدُّ الطَّعَامَ عِنْدَمَا نُجَهِّزُ الْمَأْكُولاَتِ لِلأَكْل.We say I prepare the food when we get dishes ready for eating.

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّالِثَةُ هِيَ: نَقْطَعُ الْخُضَارَ.And the third phrase is: We chop the vegetables.

ليلىنَقُولُ نَقْطَعُ الْخُضَارَ عِنْدَمَا نَسْتَخْدِمُ السِّكِّينَ لِتَقْطِيعِ الطَّمَاطِمِ وَالْخِيَار.We say we chop vegetables when using the knife to cut tomatoes and cucumbers.

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ هِيَ: أَضَعُ الْمِلْحَ.And the fourth phrase is: I put the salt.

ليلىنَقُولُ أَضَعُ الْمِلْحَ عِنْدَمَا نَجْعَلُ الطَّعَامَ جَيِّدَ الطَّعْم.We say I put the salt when making the food good in taste.

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الْخَامِسَةُ هِيَ: الطَّعَامُ لَذِيذٌ.And the fifth phrase is: The food is delicious.

ليلىنَقُولُ الطَّعَامُ لَذِيذٌ عِنْدَمَا يَكُونُ الأَكْلُ طَيِّبًا وَشَهِيًّا جِدًّا.We say the food is delicious when the meal is good and very appetizing.

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ السَّادِسَةُ هِيَ: أَغْسِلُ الأَطْبَاقَ.And the sixth phrase is: I wash the dishes.

ليلىنَقُولُ أَغْسِلُ الأَطْبَاقَ عِنْدَمَا نُنَظِّفُ الصُّحُونَ بِالْمَاءِ وَالصَّابُون.We say I wash the dishes when cleaning plates with water and soap.

كريمالآنَ، دَعِينَا نَتَكَلَّمُ عَنْ عَادَاتِنَا فِي الْمَطْبَخ!Now, let us speak about our habits in the kitchen!

ليلىأَنَا فِي فَرِيق لَيْلَى! أَنَا أُحِبُّ الطَّبْخَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فِي الْبَيْت.I am in Team Layla! I love cooking every day at home.

كريموَأَنَا فِي فَرِيق كَرِيم! أَنَا أُفَضِّلُ طَلَبَ الطَّعَامِ مِنَ الْمَطْعَم.And I am in Team Karim! I prefer ordering food from the restaurant.

ليلىهَهَهَا! لٰكِنَّ طَعَامَ الْبَيْتِ صِحِّيٌّ وَأَفْضَلُ كَثِيرًا يَا كَرِيم!Hahaha! But home food is healthy and much better Karim!

كريمصَحِيح، لٰكِنِّي أَشْعُرُ بِالْكَسَلِ عِنْدَمَا أَقِفُ كَثِيرًا فِي الْمَطْبَخ.True, but I feel lazy when standing a lot in the kitchen.

ليلىوَلٰكِنْ عِنْدَمَا نَتَعَاوَن، يَكُونُ الطَّبْخُ سَهْلًا وَسَرِيعًا لِلْجَمِيع!However when we cooperate, cooking is easy and fast for everyone!

كريمأَنَا أُوَافِقُ عَلَى ذٰلِكَ فَقَط إِذَا كُنْتُ أَنَا آكُلُ وَأَنْتِ تَطْبُخِين!I agree to that only if I eat and you cook!

ليلىهَهَهَا! هٰذَا لَيْسَ عَدْلًا يَا كَرِيم!Hahaha! That is not fair Karim!

كريمحَسَنًا، أَنَا مُسْتَعِدٌّ أَنْ أَغْسِلَ الأَطْبَاقَ بَعْدَ الْعَشَاء.Okay, I am ready to wash the dishes after dinner.

ليلىهٰذَا اتِّفَاقٌ مُمْتَاز! هٰكَذَا نَتَشَارَكُ الْعَمَلَ فِي الْمَطْبَخ.That is an excellent deal! This is how we share work in the kitchen.

كريموَهَلْ تُحِبِّينَ اسْتِخْدَامَ التَّوَابِلِ الْكَثِيرَةِ فِي الطَّبْخ؟And do you like using lots of spices in cooking?

ليلىنَعَم، أَنَا أَضَعُ الْمِلْحَ وَالْفُلْفُلَ الأَسْوَدَ بِعِنَايَةٍ كَبِيرَة.Yes, I put the salt and black pepper with great care.

كريمرَائِع! وَمَا هِيَ الْخُضَارُ الَّتِي تُفَضِّلِينَهَا يَا لَيْلَى؟Wonderful! And what are the vegetables that you prefer Layla?

ليلىأُحِبُّ الْجَزَرَ وَالْكَوْسَةَ وَالْبَطَاطِسَ كَثِيرًا فِي الْحَسَاء.I like carrots, zucchini, and potatoes a lot in soup.

كريمعِنْدِي سُؤَالٌ مُمْتِعٌ لَكِ عَنِ الطَّبْخِ فِي الْبَيْت!I have an enjoyable question for you about cooking at home!

كريمفِي رَأْيِكِ، كَمْ بِالْمِئَة مِنَ النَّاسِ يَطْبُخُونَ الْعَشَاءَ فِي الْبَيْت؟In your opinion, what percentage of people cook dinner at home?

ليلىأَممم، أَقُولُ... رُبَّمَا أَرْبَعُونَ بِالْمِئَة!Ummm, I say... maybe forty percent!

كريمقَرَأْتُ أَنَّ سَبْعِينَ بِالْمِئَة مِنَ النَّاسِ يُفَضِّلُونَ الطَّبْخَ فِي الْبَيْت!I read that seventy percent of people prefer cooking at home!

ليلىيَا لَلْعَجَب! سَبْعُونَ بِالْمِئَة؟ هٰذِهِ نِسْبَةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ جِدًّا!How surprising! Seventy percent? That is a very large percentage!

كريمنَعَم، وَقَرَأْتُ أَنَّهُمْ يَفْرَحُونَ عِنْدَمَا يَأْكُلُونَ مَعَ الأَهْل.Yes, and I read that they rejoice when eating with family.

ليلىصَحِيح! الاِجْتِمَاعُ عَلَى مَائِدَةِ الطَّعَامِ يَجْلِبُ السَّعَادَةَ لِلْجَمِيع.True! Gathering around the food table brings happiness to everyone.

كريموَأَنَا الآنَ أُفَكِّرُ فِي تَجْرِبَةِ طَبْخِ وَجْبَةٍ بَسِيطَة.And I am now thinking of trying to cook a simple meal.

ليلىهٰذَا خَبَرٌ سَعِيد! فَرِيق لَيْلَى يَرْبَحُ عُضْوًا جَدِيدًا!This is happy news! Team Layla wins a new member!

ليلىمُمْتَاز! الْمَوْقِفُ الثَّانِي: أَنْتَ تَقِفُ أَمَامَ الطَّاوِلَةِ لِتَجْهِيزِ الْغَدَاء. مَاذَا تَقُول؟Excellent! The second situation: You stand in front of the table to get lunch ready. What do you say?

كريمأَقُولُ لِأُمِّي بِفَرَح: أَنَا أُعِدُّ الطَّعَامَ لِلْعَائِلَةِ الْيَوْم!I say to my mother with joy: I prepare the food for the family today!

ليلىرَائِع! الْمَوْقِفُ الثَّالِث: أَمَامَكَ جَزَرٌ وَطَمَاطِمُ وَسِكِّينٌ حَادّ. مَاذَا تَفْعَل؟Wonderful! The third situation: Before you are carrots, tomatoes, and a sharp knife. What do you do?

كريمأُرَكِّزُ جَيِّدًا وَأَقُول: نَحْنُ نَقْطَعُ الْخُضَارَ بِعِنَايَة.I concentrate well and say: We chop the vegetables carefully.

ليلىإِجَابَةٌ صَحِيحَة! الْمَوْقِفُ الرَّابِع: تَتَذَوَّقُ الْحَسَاءَ وَتَجِدُ طَعْمَهُ خَفِيفًا. مَاذَا تَقُول؟Correct answer! The fourth situation: You taste the soup and find its taste light. What do you say?

كريمآخُذُ الْمِلْعَقَةَ وَأَقُول: أَنَا أَضَعُ الْمِلْحَ فِي الْقِدْر.I take the spoon and say: I put the salt in the pot.

ليلىجَيِّدٌ جِدًّا! الْمَوْقِفُ الْخَامِس: انْتَهَيْتَ مِنَ الأَكْلِ وَكَانَ الطَّعْمُ رَائِعًا. مَاذَا تَقُول؟Very good! The fifth situation: You finished eating and the taste was wonderful. What do you say?

كريمأَمْسَحُ يَدَيَّ وَأَقُول: مَا شَاءَ الله، الطَّعَامُ لَذِيذٌ جِدًّا!I wipe my hands and say: Masha'Allah, the food is very delicious!

ليلىمُمْتَاز! الْمَوْقِفُ السَّادِس: تَرَى الصُّحُونَ فِي الْحَوْضِ بَعْدَ الْعَشَاء. مَاذَا تَقُول؟Excellent! The sixth situation: You see the plates in the sink after dinner. What do you say?

كريمأَتَوَجَّهُ نَحْوَ الْحَوْضِ وَأَقُول: أَنَا أَغْسِلُ الأَطْبَاقَ الآن!I head towards the sink and say: I wash the dishes now!

ليلىرَائِع! الْمَوْقِفُ السَّابِع: صَدِيقُكَ يَسْأَلُكَ: مَاذَا تَفْعَلُونَ فِي الْمَنْزِل؟ بِمَاذَا تُجِيب؟Wonderful! The seventh situation: Your friend asks you: What are you doing in the house? How do you answer?

كريمأَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ بِفَخْر: نَحْنُ نَطْبُخُ الْعَشَاءَ مَعًا فِي الْبَيْت!I reply to him with pride: We cook dinner together at home!
