ليلىأَهْلًا يَا كَرِيم! أَنَا بِخَيْرٍ وَسَعِيدَةٌ جِدًّا. كَيْفَ كَانَ يَوْمُكَ أَمْس؟Hello Karim! I am doing well and very happy. How was your day yesterday?

كريمكَانَ يَوْمًا جَمِيلًا وَمُمَيَّزًا! زُرْتُ بَيْتَ صَدِيقِي طَارِق، وَتَعَرَّفْتُ عَلَى قِطَّتِهِ الْجَدِيدَة.It was a beautiful and special day! I visited my friend Tariq's house, and I got to know his new cat.

ليلىهٰذَا خَبَرٌ لَطِيفٌ يَا كَرِيم! هَلْ حَاوَلْتَ أَنْ تَحْضُنَ الْقِطَّةَ فَوْرًا أَمْ كُنْتَ خَائِفًا؟That is nice news Karim! Did you try to hug the cat immediately, or were you scared?

كريمهههه، لَا يَا لَيْلَى، لَمْ أَكُنْ خَائِفًا! لٰكِنِّي تَعَلَّمْتُ أَنَّ اللَّمْسَ الْمُفَاجِئَ يُخِيفُ الْحَيَوَان.Haha, no Layla, I was not scared! But I learned that sudden touching scares the animal.

ليلىصَحِيح، زِيَارَةُ بَيْتٍ فِيهِ حَيَوَانٌ أَلِيف تَحْتَاجُ إِلَى هُدُوءٍ وَاحْتِرَام.Correct, visiting a house with a pet requires calm and respect.

كريمكُنْتُ أَتَسَاءَل: هَلْ تَفْهَمُ الْقِطَّةُ كَلَامَنَا أَمْ تَفْهَمُ اسْمَهَا فَقَط؟I was wondering: Does the cat understand our speech, or only her name?

ليلىالْحَيَوَانَاتُ تَشْعُرُ بِنَبْرَةِ الصَّوْتِ الْهَادِئَةِ وَالْحَرَكَاتِ اللَّطِيفَة.Animals feel the calm tone of voice and gentle movements.

كريمبِالضَّبْط، الْقِطَطُ فِي بُيُوتِنَا مَحْبُوبَةٌ جِدًّا وَنُعَامِلُهَا بِعِنَايَةٍ كَبِيرَة.Exactly, cats in our homes are very loved and we treat them with great care.

ليلىنَعَم، وَلِذٰلِكَ نَسْتَعْمِلُ كَلِمَاتٍ مُؤَدَّبَةً مَعَ صَاحِبِ الْبَيْت لِنَكُونَ ضُيُوفًا لُطَفَاء.Yes, and that is why we use polite words with the host to be kind guests.

كريموَالْيَوْمَ نَتَعَلَّمُ مَعًا سِتَّ عِبَارَاتٍ أَسَاسِيَّة لِهٰذَا الْمَوْقِفِ الْيَوْمِيّ.And today we learn together six essential phrases for this daily situation.

ليلىعِبَارَاتٌ تُسَاعِدُنَا عَلَى التَّوَاصُلِ بِأَدَبٍ وَبِشَكْلٍ طَبِيعِيّ.Phrases that help us communicate politely and naturally.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ الأُولَى هِيَ لِطَلَبِ الإِذْن: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟The first phrase is for asking permission: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىوَالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ لِلسُّؤَالِ عَنِ الاسْم: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟And the second phrase is for asking the name: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّالِثَةُ لِلْمَدْحِ وَالتَّعْبِيرِ عَنِ الإِعْجَاب: إِنَّهَا قِطَّةٌ لَطِيفَةٌ جِدًّا!And the third phrase is for complimenting and expressing liking: إِنَّهَا قِطَّةٌ لَطِيفَةٌ جِدًّا!

ليلىوَالْعِبَارَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ لِمَعْرِفَةِ السِّنّ: كَمْ عُمْرُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟And the fourth phrase is to know the age: كَمْ عُمْرُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

كريموَالْعِبَارَةُ الْخَامِسَةُ عَنْ طَبِيعَةِ الْحَيَوَان: هَلْ تُحِبُّ اللَّعِبَ مَعَ النَّاس؟And the fifth phrase is about the animal's nature: هَلْ تُحِبُّ اللَّعِبَ مَعَ النَّاس؟

ليلىوَالْعِبَارَةُ السَّادِسَةُ لِلتَّوْجِيهِ وَالنَّصِيحَة: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.And the sixth phrase is for guidance and advice: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.

كريميَا لَهَا مِنْ عِبَارَاتٍ مُفِيدَةٍ وَسَهْلَةِ الْحِفْظ!What useful and easy to memorize phrases!

ليلىكُلُّ جُمْلَةٍ فِيهَا تُعَبِّرُ عَنِ اللُّطْفِ وَالاحْتِرَامِ فِي بَيْتِ الصَّدِيق.Every sentence in them expresses gentleness and respect in the friend's home.

كريمأَخْبِرْنَا يَا لَيْلَى، هَلْ أَنْتِ مُتَحَمِّسَةٌ لِسَمَاعِ الْقِصَّة؟Tell us Layla, are you excited to hear the story?

ليلىنَعَم بِكُلِّ تَأْكِيد! فِي فِقْرَةِ الْقِصَّةِ التَّالِيَة، نَسْمَعُ تَفَاصِيلَ زِيَارَتِكَ لِبَيْتِ طَارِق.Yes definitely! In the following story section, we hear the details of your visit to Tariq's house.

كريموَصَلْتُ إِلَى بَيْتِ طَارِق فِي وَقْتِ الْعَصْر، وَكَانَ الْجَوُّ لَطِيفًا وَمُشْمِسًا.I arrived at Tariq's house in the afternoon, and the weather was nice and sunny.

ليلىبَيْتُ طَارِق فِيهِ فِنَاءٌ عَرَبِيٌّ جَمِيل، هَلْ جَلَسْتُمْ فِي الْفِنَاء؟Tariq's house has a beautiful Arabic courtyard, did you sit in the courtyard?

كريمنَعَم، جَلَسْنَا عَلَى مَقَاعِدَ خَشَبِيَّةٍ مُرِيحَة، وَأَحْضَرَ طَارِقٌ شَايًا سَاخِنًا مَعَ النَّعْنَاع.Yes, we sat on comfortable wooden benches, and Tariq brought hot tea with mint.

ليلىيَا سَلَام! الشَّايُ مَعَ النَّعْنَاعِ يَجْعَلُ الْجِلْسَةَ دَافِئَةً وَمُمْتِعَة.Wonderful! Tea with mint makes the gathering warm and pleasant.

كريمبَيْنَمَا كُنَّا نَشْرَبُ الشَّاي، سَمِعْتُ حَرَكَةً خَفِيفَةً خَلْفَ شَجَرَةِ اللَّيْمُونِ الصَّغِيرَة.While we were drinking tea, I heard a light movement behind the small lemon tree.

ليلىوَهَلْ خَرَجَتِ الْقِطَّةُ مِنْ خَلْفِ الشَّجَرَة؟And did the cat come out from behind the tree?

كريمخَرَجَتْ قِطَّةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ جِدًّا، فَرْوُهَا أَبْيَضُ مَعَ بُقَعٍ بُرْتُقَالِيَّةٍ لَامِعَة.A very beautiful cat came out, her fur white with bright orange patches.

ليلىمَا شَاءَ اللَّه! وَكَيْفَ كَانَتْ تَنْظُرُ إِلَيْكَ فِي تِلْكَ اللَّحْظَة؟How wonderful! And how was she looking at you at that moment?

كريموَقَفَتْ بَعِيدًا قَلِيلًا، وَنَظَرَتْ إِلَيَّ بِعُيُونٍ خَضْرَاءَ كَبِيرَةٍ وَفُضُولِيَّة.She stood a little far, and looked at me with big, curious green eyes.

ليلىالْقِطَطُ حَذِرَةٌ عِنْدَ رُؤْيَةِ شَخْصٍ جَدِيد، وَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تَتَأَكَّدَ مِنَ الأَمَان.Cats are cautious when seeing a new person, and want to make sure of safety.

كريمكُنْتُ أَرْغَبُ فِي مَدِّ يَدِي، لٰكِنِّي احْتَرَمْتُ بَيْتَ صَدِيقِي وَقُلْتُ لَهُ:I wanted to reach out my hand, but I respected my friend's home and said to him:

كريمهَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىتَصَرَّفْتَ بِأَدَبٍ وَلُطْفٍ يَا كَرِيم! وَمَاذَا قَالَ لَكَ طَارِق؟You behaved with politeness and kindness Karim! And what did Tariq say to you?

كريمابْتَسَمَ طَارِقٌ وَقَالَ: نَعَم، هِيَ قِطَّةٌ أَلِيفَةٌ وَتُحِبُّ الضُّيُوف.Tariq smiled and said: Yes, she is a friendly pet and loves guests.

ليلىوَهَلْ سَأَلْتَهُ عَنِ اسْمِهَا أَيْضًا؟And did you ask him about her name too?

كريمنَعَم، قُلْتُ لَهُ بِلُطْف: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟Yes, I said to him gently: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىوَمَاذَا كَانَ جَوَابُهُ؟ مَا هُوَ الاسْمُ الَّذِي اخْتَارَهُ لَهَا؟And what was his answer? What is the name he chose for her?

كريمقَالَ لِي بِابْتِسَامَة: اسْمُهَا مِشْمِش لِأَنَّ لَوْنَهَا يُشْبِهُ لَوْنَ الْمِشْمِش.He told me with a smile: Her name is Mishmish because her color looks like the color of apricots.

ليلىاسْمٌ لَطِيفٌ جِدًّا وَيُنَاسِبُ شَكْلَهَا!A very cute name that suits her appearance!

كريمأَعْطَانِي طَارِقٌ عَصًا صَغِيرَةً فِيهَا رِيشَةٌ مُلَوَّنَة لِأَلْعَبَ مَعَهَا.Tariq gave me a small stick with a colored feather to play with her.

ليلىوَكَيْفَ اقْتَرَبْتَ مِنْهَا يَا كَرِيم؟And how did you approach her Karim?

كريمجَلَسْتُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ بِهُدُوء، وَمَدَدْتُ يَدِي لِتَشَمَّ أَصَابِعِي أَوَّلًا.I sat on the floor calmly, and extended my hand so she could sniff my fingers first.

ليلىهٰذِهِ هِيَ الْخُطْوَةُ الصَّحِيحَةُ دَائِمًا مَعَ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ الأَلِيفَة.This is always the correct step with pets.

كريماقْتَرَبَتْ مِشْمِش بِبُطْء، وَشَمَّتْ يَدِي، ثُمَّ مَسَحَتْ رَأْسَهَا بِيَدِي.Mishmish approached slowly, sniffed my hand, then rubbed her head against my hand.

ليلىهٰذَا دَلِيلٌ عَلَى أَنَّهَا شَعَرَتْ بِالرَّاحَةِ وَالأَمَانِ مَعَك.This is proof that she felt comfort and safety with you.

كريمحِينَهَا قَالَ لِي طَارِق: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.At that time Tariq said to me: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.

ليلىنَصِيحَةٌ طَيِّبَة، وَمَاذَا حَدَثَ بَعْدَ أَنْ لَمَسْتَهَا؟Good advice, and what happened after you touched her?

كريمسَمِعْتُ مِنْهَا صَوْتَ الْخَرْخَرَةِ الْجَمِيل، وَقَفَزَتْ فَوْقَ رُكْبَتِي بِفَرَح!I heard the lovely purring sound from her, and she jumped onto my lap with joy!

ليلىيَا لَهَا مِنْ لَحْظَةٍ سَعِيدَة! كَيْفَ لَعِبَتْ مَعَ الرِّيشَة؟What a happy moment! How did she play with the feather?

كريمأَمْسَكَتِ الرِّيشَةَ بِيَدَيْهَا الصَّغِيرَتَيْن، ثُمَّ دَارَتْ حَوْلَ نَفْسِهَا بِفَرَح.She caught the feather with her little paws, then spun around herself with joy.

ليلىهههه، أَنَا أُفَضِّلُ الْقِطَطَ الْهَادِئَةَ الَّتِي تَنَامُ دُونَ حَرَكَةٍ كَثِيرَة.Haha, I prefer calm cats that sleep without moving a lot.

كريمأَمَّا أَنَا فَأُحِبُّ الْقِطَطَ النَّشِيطَةَ الَّتِي تَلْعَبُ وَتَرْكُضُ فِي كُلِّ مَكَان!As for me, I love active cats that play and run everywhere!

ليلىالْقِطَطُ تَخْتَلِفُ فِي طِبَاعِهَا، مِثْلَ النَّاسِ تَمَامًا.Cats differ in their temperaments, just like people.

كريمصَحِيح، وَحِينَمَا نَتَعَامَلُ مَعَهَا بِلُطْف، نَكْسِبُ صَدَاقَتَهَا سَرِيعًا.Correct, and when we interact with them gently, we gain their friendship quickly.

ليلىوَهَلْ تَعِبَتْ مِشْمِش بَعْدَ كُلِّ هٰذَا اللَّعِبِ وَالْحَرَكَة؟And did Mishmish get tired after all this playing and moving?

كريمنَعَم، نَامَتْ مِشْمِش عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ نَاعِمَةٍ تَحْتَ ضَوْءِ الشَّمْسِ الدَّافِئ.Yes, Mishmish slept on a soft cushion under the warm sunlight.

ليلىمَشْهَدٌ جَمِيلٌ يُعْطِي شُعُورًا بِالرَّاحَةِ وَالْهُدُوء.A beautiful scene that gives a feeling of comfort and calm.

كريموَالآنَ يَا أَصْدِقَائِي، نَنْتَقِلُ مَعًا إِلَى شَرْحِ الْعِبَارَاتِ السِّتِّ بِالتَّفْصِيل.And now friends, we move together to explaining the six phrases in detail.

كريمفِي هٰذِهِ الْفِقْرَة، نَشْرَحُ كُلَّ عِبَارَةٍ وَكَيْفَ نَسْتَعْمِلُهَا فِي الْحَيَاةِ الْيَوْمِيَّة.In this section, we explain each phrase and how we use it in daily life.

ليلىالْعِبَارَةُ الأُولَى: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟The first phrase: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟

كريمهٰذِهِ الْجُمْلَةُ تَعْنِي أَنَّنَا نَسْأَلُ صَاحِبَ الْحَيَوَانِ الإِذْنَ أَوَّلًا.This sentence means that we ask the pet owner for permission first.

ليلىنَعَم، لِأَنَّ بَعْضَ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ قَدْ تَكُونُ مَرِيضَةً أَوْ تَخَافُ مِنَ الْغُرَبَاء.Yes, because some animals may be sick or afraid of strangers.

كريموَيُمْكِنُ أَنْ نُغَيِّرَ الْكَلِمَةَ الأَخِيرَة، مِثْلَ: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْكَلْب؟And we can change the last word, like: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْكَلْب؟

ليلىأَوْ مَثَلًا: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الطَّائِر؟ السُّؤَالُ دَائِمًا دَلِيلُ احْتِرَام.Or for example: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الطَّائِر؟ Asking is always proof of respect.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟The second phrase: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىالسُّؤَالُ عَنِ الاسْمِ يَفْتَحُ حَدِيثًا لَطِيفًا وَوُدِّيًّا مَعَ صَدِيقِك.Asking about the name opens a pleasant and friendly conversation with your friend.

كريميَعْنِي نُظْهِرُ رَغْبَةً حَقِيقِيَّةً فِي مَعْرِفَةِ تَفَاصِيلِ الْبَيْتِ وَأَهْلِه.It means we show genuine desire to know the details of the house and its family.

ليلىوَهُنَاكَ أَسْمَاءٌ عَرَبِيَّةٌ شَائِعَةٌ لِلْقِطَط، مِثْلَ مِشْمِش، وَسُكَّر، وَلُولُو.And there are common Arabic names for cats, such as Mishmish, Sukkar, and Lulu.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ الثَّالِثَةُ: إِنَّهَا قِطَّةٌ لَطِيفَةٌ جِدًّا!The third phrase: إِنَّهَا قِطَّةٌ لَطِيفَةٌ جِدًّا!

ليلىهٰذِهِ الْعِبَارَةُ لِلْمَدْح، وَتَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّ الْقِطَّةَ جَمِيلَةٌ وَحَسَنَةُ السُّلُوك.This phrase is for praise, and indicates that the cat is beautiful and well-behaved.

كريمعِنْدَمَا تَمْدَحُ قِطَّةَ صَدِيقِك، يَشْعُرُ بِالْفَرَحِ وَالسَّعَادَةِ بِحَيَوَانِهِ الأَلِيف.When you praise your friend's cat, he feels happy and glad about his pet.

ليلىصَحِيح، وَإِذَا كَانَ حَيَوَانًا مُذَكَّرًا، نَقُول: إِنَّهُ قِطٌّ لَطِيفٌ جِدًّا.Correct, and if it is a male animal, we say: إِنَّهُ قِطٌّ لَطِيفٌ جِدًّا.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ: كَمْ عُمْرُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟The fourth phrase: كَمْ عُمْرُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىنَسْتَعْمِلُ كَلِمَةَ كَم لِلسُّؤَالِ عَنِ الْعَدَدِ أَوِ الْعُمْر.We use the word 'kam' to ask about quantity or age.

كريمقَدْ يُجِيبُ الصَّدِيق: عُمْرُهَا سَنَةٌ وَاحِدَة، أَوْ عُمْرُهَا ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُر.The friend might answer: Her age is one year, or her age is three months.

ليلىمَعْرِفَةُ الْعُمْرِ تُسَاعِدُنَا عَلَى فَهْمِ نَشَاطِ الْقِطَّةِ وَطَرِيقَةِ لَعِبِهَا.Knowing the age helps us understand the cat's activity and way of playing.

كريمالْقِطَّةُ الصَّغِيرَةُ تَلْعَبُ كَثِيرًا، بَيْنَمَا الْقِطَّةُ الْكَبِيرَةُ تُفَضِّلُ النَّوْمَ وَالْهُدُوء.The small cat plays a lot, while the older cat prefers sleep and quiet.

ليلىالْعِبَارَةُ الْخَامِسَةُ: هَلْ تُحِبُّ اللَّعِبَ مَعَ النَّاس؟The fifth phrase: هَلْ تُحِبُّ اللَّعِبَ مَعَ النَّاس؟

كريمسُؤَالٌ ضَرُورِيٌّ جِدًّا لِمَعْرِفَةِ مِزَاجِ الْقِطَّةِ قَبْلَ الاقْتِرَابِ مِنْهَا.A very necessary question to know the cat's mood before approaching her.

ليلىيَعْنِي نَعْرِفُ هَلْ هِيَ قِطَّةٌ هَادِئَةٌ أَمْ نَشِيطَةٌ وَتُحِبُّ الْحَرَكَة.It means we know whether she is a calm cat or an active one that loves moving.

كريمالْعِبَارَةُ السَّادِسَةُ: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.The sixth phrase: اِلْمِسْهَا بِهُدُوءٍ مِنْ فَضْلِك.

ليلىهٰذِهِ الْجُمْلَةُ تَوْجِيهٌ لَطِيف، نَقُولُهَا لِلأَطْفَالِ أَوِ الضُّيُوفِ لِحِمَايَةِ الْقِطَّة.This sentence is gentle guidance, we say it to children or guests to protect the cat.

كريماللَّمْسُ بِهُدُوءٍ يَجْعَلُ الْحَيَوَانَ يَشْعُرُ بِالأَمَانِ وَلَا يَخَاف.Touching gently makes the animal feel safe and not afraid.

ليلىمَسْحُ الرَّأْسِ أَوِ الظَّهْرِ بِلُطْف هُوَ أَفْضَلُ طَرِيقَةٍ لِلتَّعَامُلِ مَعَ الْقِطَط.Stroking the head or back gently is the best way to interact with cats.

كريممُمْتَازٌ يَا لَيْلَى! وَالآنَ هَلْ نَبْدَأُ فِقْرَةَ الاخْتِبَارِ الْقَصِير؟Excellent Layla! And now shall we start the short quiz section?

كريمأَسْأَلُ صَاحِبَ الْبَيْتِ بِأَدَب: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟I ask the host politely: هَلْ يُمْكِنُنِي لَمْسُ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىأَحْسَنْتَ يَا كَرِيم! إِجَابَةٌ صَحِيحَةٌ وَتَدُلُّ عَلَى حُسْنِ التَّصَرُّف.Well done Karim! A correct answer that indicates good conduct.

ليلىالْمَوْقِفُ الثَّانِي: سَمَحَ لَكَ صَدِيقُكَ بِلَمْسِهَا، وَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تَعْرِفَ اسْمَهَا، مَاذَا تَقُول؟Situation two: Your friend allowed you to touch her, and you want to know her name, what do you say?

كريمأَقُولُ لِصَدِيقِي: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟I say to my friend: مَا اسْمُ هٰذِهِ الْقِطَّة؟

ليلىإِجَابَةٌ مُمْتَازَة! هٰكَذَا تَسْأَلُ عَنِ الاسْمِ بِشَكْلٍ وَاضِحٍ وَمُبَاشِر.An excellent answer! That way you ask about the name clearly and directly.
