كريمأَمْسِ فِي الصَّبَاح، حَدَثَ مَعِي مَوْقِفٌ طَرِيفٌ جِدًّا فِي الْمَتْجَر!Yesterday in the morning, a very funny situation happened to me in the shop!

ليلىههه! كَرِيم وَالْمَوَاقِفُ الطَّرِيفَة فِي كُلِّ مَكَان!Hahaha! Karim and funny situations everywhere!

كريمكُنْتُ أَقِفُ أَمَامَ الصَّنْدُوق، وَفَجْأَةً صَرَخْتُ: أَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي؟I was standing in front of the register, and suddenly I cried out: Where is my wallet?

ليلىيا إِلهِي! هٰذَا مَوْقِفٌ مُحْرِجٌ جِدًّا يا كَرِيم!Oh my god! This is a very embarrassing situation Karim!

كريمنَعَم، بَحَثْتُ فِي كُلِّ جَيْب، وَلَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا فِي الْبِدَايَة.Yes, I searched in every pocket, and I didn't find anything at first.

ليلىوَهَلْ نَظَرَ إِلَيْكَ النَّاسُ فِي الصَّفّ؟And did people in line look at you?

كريمنَعَم، كَانَ الْجَمِيعُ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيَّ بِدَهْشَةٍ وَابْتِسَامَة!Yes, everyone was looking at me with astonishment and a smile!

ليلىكُنْتَ فِي عَجَلَةٍ مِن أَمْرِكَ كَالْعَادَةِ يا كَرِيم؟Were you in a hurry as usual Karim?

ليلىوَالْعَجَلَةُ تَجْعَلُ الإِنْسَانَ يَنْسَى أَشْيَاءَهُ الصَّغِيرَة.And haste makes a person forget his small things.

ليلىمُمْتَاز! وَالعِبَارَةُ الرَّئِيسِيَّةُ هِيَ: أَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي؟Excellent! And the main phrase is: Where is my wallet?

كريماسْتَيْقَظْتُ فِي السَّاعَةِ السَّابِعَة، وَأَخَذْتُ حَقِيبَتِي الصَّغِيرَة.I woke up at seven o'clock, and took my small bag.

ليلىوَهَلْ شَرِبْتَ القَهْوَةَ فِي البَيْتِ قَبْلَ الخُرُوج؟And did you drink coffee at home before leaving?

كريملا، كُنْتُ أُرِيدُ شِرَاءَ القَهْوَةِ مِنَ الْمَخْبَز.No, I wanted to buy coffee from the bakery.

ليلىفِكْرَةٌ جَيِّدَة، فَالْقَهْوَةُ الطَّازَجَةُ فِي الصَّبَاحِ لَذِيذَة.Good idea, for fresh coffee in the morning is delicious.

كريمذَهَبْتُ إِلَى مَخْبَزٍ صَغِيرٍ لِشِرَاءِ الْخُبْزِ وَالْقَهْوَةِ السَّاخِنَة.I went to a small bakery to buy bread and hot coffee.

ليلىيَمِي! رَائِحَةُ الْخُبْزِ الطَّازَجِ فِي الصَّبَاحِ رَائِعَةٌ جِدًّا.Yummy! The smell of fresh bread in the morning is very wonderful.

كريموَضَعْتُ الْخُبْزَ فِي السَّلَّة، وَمَشَيْتُ إِلَى الصَّنْدُوقِ لِلدَّفْع.I put the bread in the basket, and walked to the register to pay.

ليلىوَهَلْ كَانَ الْمَكَانُ مُزْدَحِمًا فِي ذٰلِك الْوَقْت؟And was the place crowded at that time?

كريمنَعَم، كَانَ هُنَاكَ نَاسٌ كَثِيرُونَ يَنْتَظِرُونَ فِي الصَّفّ.Yes, there were many people waiting in line.

ليلىوَمَاذَا حَدَثَ عِنْدَمَا وَصَلْتَ إِلَى الْبَائِع؟And what happened when you reached the seller?

كريمابْتَسَمَ الْبَائِعُ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ: كَمِ الْحِسَاب؟ ثُمَّ أَعْطَانِي الْفَاتُورَة.The seller smiled, so I asked him: How much is the bill? Then he gave me the invoice.

ليلىوَهُنَا وَضَعْتَ يَدَكَ فِي الجَيْب؟And here you put your hand in the pocket?

كريمنَعَم! وَضَعْتُ يَدِي فِي الجَيْب، فَلَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا!Yes! I put my hand in the pocket, and I didn't find anything!

ليلىيا لَكَوَارِثِ الصَّبَاح! صَرَخْتَ فِي الْمَتْجَر؟Oh morning disasters! Did you cry out in the shop?

كريمقُلْتُ بِصَوْتٍ عَالٍ: أَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي؟ لا أَجِدُ الْمَحْفَظَة!I said in a loud voice: Where is my wallet? I cannot find the wallet!

ليلىههه! وَهَلْ نَظَرَ إِلَيْكَ الْجَمِيعُ فِي الْمَخْبَز؟Hahaha! And did everyone look at you in the bakery?

كريمنَعَم، نَظَرَ إِلَيَّ الْبَائِعُ وَالْقَادِمُونَ فِي الصَّفّ!Yes, the seller and the people in line looked at me!

ليلىوَمَاذَا قُلْتَ لِلْبَائِعِ بَعْدَ ذٰلِك يا كَرِيم؟And what did you say to the seller after that Karim?

كريمقُلْتُ لَهُ بِهُدُوء: انْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة مِنْ فَضْلِك!I said to him calmly: Wait a moment please!

ليلىانْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة عِبَارَةٌ مُفِيدَةٌ جِدًّا فِي هٰذَا الْمَوْقِف.Wait a moment is a very useful phrase in this situation.

كريمثُمَّ فَتَحْتُ الحَقِيبَةَ الصَّغِيرَةَ بَحْثًا عَنِ المَال.Then I opened the small bag searching for money.

ليلىوَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ الْمَحْفَظَةَ فِي الحَقِيبَة؟And did you find the wallet in the bag?

كريملا، لا أَجِدُ الْمَحْفَظَة فِي الحَقِيبَة أَيْضًا!No, I cannot find the wallet in the bag either!

ليلىيا لَلْحَظّ! مَاذَا فَعَلْتَ بَعْدَ ذٰلِك؟What luck! What did you do after that?

كريمبَحَثْتُ فِي جَيْبِ الْمِعْطَف، فَوَجَدْتُ وَرَقَةَ نَقْدٍ صَغِيرَة!I searched in the coat pocket, and found a small banknote!

ليلىيَا لَلرَّوْعَة! مَعِي نَقْد فِي الْمِعْطَف!How wonderful! I have cash in the coat!

كريمنَعَم! قُلْتُ لِلْبَائِعِ بِسَعَادَة: مَعِي نَقْد هنا!Yes! I told the seller happily: I have cash here!

ليلىهٰذَا نَجَاحٌ كَبِيرٌ يا كَرِيم! ثُمَّ دَفَعْتَ الثَّمَن؟This is a great success Karim! Then you paid the price?

كريمدَفَعْتُ المَالَ وَقُلْتُ لَهُ: شُكْرًا لِمُسَاعَدَتِك يا صَدِيقِي.I paid the money and said to him: Thank you for your help my friend.

ليلىشُكْرًا لِمُسَاعَدَتِك جُمْلَةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ جِدًّا لِلإِنْهَاء.Thank you for your help is a very beautiful sentence to finish.

كريمنَعَم، وَالْبَائِعُ ابْتَسَمَ وَأَعْطَانِي الْخُبْزَ وَالْقَهْوَة.Yes, and the seller smiled and gave me the bread and coffee.

ليلىوَهَلْ شَرِبْتَ الْقَهْوَةَ بِسَعَادَةٍ بَعْدَ ذٰلِك؟And did you drink coffee happily after that?

كريمنَعَم، شَرِبْتُ الْقَهْوَةَ وَأَنَا أَبْتَسِمُ فِي الشَّارِع!Yes, I drank coffee while smiling in the street!

ليلىكَانَ مَوْقِفًا مُمْتِعًا، لٰكِنْ مَاذَا عَنِ الْمَعْلُومَةِ التَّارِيخِيَّة؟It was an enjoyable situation, but what about the historical fact?

كريمهُنَاكَ مَعْلُومَةٌ طَرِيفَة عَنِ الأَسْوَاقِ القَدِيمَة فِي دِمَشْق.There is a funny fact about old markets in Damascus.

ليلىحَقًّا؟ مَاذَا كَانَ يَفْعَلُ التُّجَّارُ قَدِيمًا؟Really? What did merchants do long ago?

كريمقَرَأْتُ أَنَّ التُّجَّارَ كَانُوا يَضَعُونَ كِيسَ النَّقْدِ فِي مَكَانٍ آمِن.I read that merchants used to place the money pouch in a safe place.

ليلىوَإِذَا نَسِيَ الزَّبُونُ المَالَ فِي البَيْت؟And if the customer forgot money at home?

كريمكَانَ البَائِعُ يَقُولُ: لا بَأْس، ادْفَعْ غَدًا فِي الصَّبَاح!The seller would say: No problem, pay tomorrow in the morning!

ليلىيا لَلثِّقَةِ وَالجَمَالِ فِي الأَسْوَاقِ القَدِيمَة!What trust and beauty in the old markets!

كريمنَعَم، كَانَتِ الأَسْوَاقُ القَدِيمَةُ مَكَانًا لِلثِّقَةِ وَالصَّدَاقَة.Yes, ancient markets were a place of trust and friendship.

ليلىهٰذِهِ مَعْلُومَةٌ ثَقَافِيَّةٌ جَمِيلَةٌ جِدًّا يا كَرِيم!This is a very beautiful cultural fact Karim!

كريمالآنَ دَعِينَا نَشْرَحُ العِبَارَاتِ السِّتَّ لِلأَصْدِقَاء.Now let us explain the six phrases for our friends.

ليلىفِكْرَةٌ مُمْتَازَة! العِبَارَةُ الأُولَى هِيَ: أَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي؟Excellent idea! The first phrase is: Where is my wallet?

كريمأَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي يعني Where is my wallet باللغة الإنجليزية.Ayna mahfazati means Where is my wallet in English.

ليلىنَسْتَخْدِمُ هٰذِهِ العِبَارَة عِنْدَمَا نَبْحَثُ عَنِ الْمَحْفَظَة.We use this phrase when we search for the wallet.

كريممَثَلا، عِنْدَمَا تَقِفُ عِنْدَ الدَّفْعِ وَتَقُول: أَيْنَ مَحْفَظَتِي؟For example, when you stand at checkout and say: Where is my wallet?

ليلىالعِبَارَةُ الثَّانِيَةُ هِيَ: لا أَجِدُ.The second phrase is: I cannot find.

كريملا أَجِدُ يعني I cannot find باللغة الإنجليزية.La ajidu means I cannot find in English.

ليلىمَثَلاً: لا أَجِدُ المَفَاتِيح، أو لا أَجِدُ الهَاتِف.For example: I cannot find keys, or I cannot find the phone.

كريمنَعَم، كَمَا قُلْتُ فِي الْمَخْبَز: لا أَجِدُ الْمَحْفَظَة!Yes, as I said in the bakery: I cannot find the wallet!

ليلىالعِبَارَةُ الثَّالِثَةُ هِيَ: انْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة.The third phrase is: Wait a moment.

كريمانْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة يعني Wait a moment باللغة الإنجليزية.Intazir lahzah means Wait a moment in English.

ليلىنَقُولُ هٰذَا لِلْبَائِعِ عِنْدَمَا نَبْحَثُ عَنِ المَال فِي الحَقِيبَة.We say this to the seller when we search for money in the bag.

كريمأَوْ عِنْدَمَا يَتَكَلَّمُ الشَّخْصُ بِسُرْعَةٍ نَقُول: انْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة!Or when a person speaks quickly we say: Wait a moment!

ليلىالعِبَارَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ هِيَ: كَمِ الْحِسَاب؟The fourth phrase is: How much is the bill?

كريمكَمِ الْحِسَاب يعني How much is the bill باللغة الإنجليزية.Kami al-hisab means How much is the bill in English.

ليلىهٰذَا سُؤَالٌ مُهِمٌّ عِنْدَ الدَّفْعِ فِي المَطْعَمِ أو المَتْجَر.This is an important question when paying in a restaurant or shop.

كريمنَسْأَلُ الْبَائِعَ دَائِمًا: كَمِ الْحِسَاب يا سَيِّدِي؟We always ask the seller: How much is the bill sir?

ليلىالعِبَارَةُ الْخَامِسَةُ هِيَ: مَعِي نَقْد.The fifth phrase is: I have cash.

كريممَعِي نَقْد يعني I have cash باللغة الإنجليزية.Ma'i naqd means I have cash in English.

ليلىنَسْتَخْدِمُ هٰذِهِ العِبَارَة عِنْدَمَا نَدْفَعُ بِالْوَرَقِ المَالِيّ.We use this phrase when we pay with paper money.

كريممَثَلا، عِنْدَ البَائِعِ فِي الشَّارِعِ نَقُول: مَعِي نَقْد!For example, at the seller in the street we say: I have cash!

ليلىالعِبَارَةُ السَّادِسَةُ هِيَ: شُكْرًا لِمُسَاعَدَتِك.The sixth phrase is: Thank you for your help.

كريمشُكْرًا لِمُسَاعَدَتِك يعني Thank you for your help باللغة الإنجليزية.Shukran li-musa'adatik means Thank you for your help in English.

ليلىنَقُولُ هٰذِهِ الْجُمْلَةَ لِلشَّخْصِ الَّذِي يُسَاعِدُنَا فِي الشَّارِعِ أَوْ المَتْجَر.We say this sentence to the person who helps us in the street or shop.

كريمهٰذِهِ عِبَارَاتٌ رَائِعَةٌ وَسَهْلَةٌ جِدًّا لِلْمُبْتَدِئِين!These are wonderful and very easy phrases for beginners!

ليلىأَحْسَنْتَ! لا أَجِدُ تَعْنِي أَنَّكَ لا تَرَى الشَّيْء.Well done! La ajidu means you do not see the item.

كريمبِالضَّبْط، لا أَجِدُ تُسَاعِدُنَا كَثِيرًا فِي الحَيَاة.Exactly, la ajidu helps us a lot in life.

ليلىالمَوْقِفُ الثَّالِث: البَائِعُ يُرِيدُ المَال، وَأَنْتَ تَفْتَحُ الحَقِيبَة، مَاذَا تَقُول؟Third situation: The seller wants money, and you open the bag, what do you say?

كريمأَبْتَسِمُ وَأَقُولُ لَهُ: انْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة مِنْ فَضْلِك!I smile and say to him: Wait a moment please!

ليلىمُمْتَاز! انْتَظِرْ لَحْظَة تُعْطِي وَقْتًا لِلْبَحْث.Excellent! Wait a moment gives time to search.

ليلىالمَوْقِفُ الرَّابِع: أَنْتَ فِي المَطْعَمِ وَتُرِيدُ مَعْرِفَةَ الثَّمَن، مَاذَا تَسْأَل؟Fourth situation: You are in the restaurant and want to know the price, what do you ask?

كريمأُنَادِي الجَرْسُونَ وَأَسْأَلُهُ: كَمِ الْحِسَاب؟I call the waiter and ask him: How much is the bill?
