On Saturday morning the sky was blue. The sun was shining high.
Were you happy to go out of the house?
Yes, I was very happy and enthusiastic.

Yes! I prepared cheese sandwiches. I took red apples.
And did you also bring something to drink?
Certainly! I prepared a large bottle, of fresh lemonade.
Sounds great! Then did you go to the green park?
Yes, I went to the park with three dear friends.
Were you ready to have a happy picnic?
Yes, we put the big red blanket on the grass.
It was a truly perfect afternoon!
Yes! We were ready to eat the tasty sandwiches.
But what happened after half an hour?
Suddenly the sky turned dark and black.
Did you see the gray clouds up high?
Yes! Suddenly it started raining very hard.
What a bad surprise! What did you do at that moment?
We had to change plans right away!
Did you collect the things in great hurry?
Yes, everyone grabbed the bags, the lemonade and the blanket.
Did you run quickly towards the car?
Yes! But we were already all completely wet.
What a disaster! Where did you go afterwards?
We all went together to my house.
Did you have the picnic inside the house?
Yes! We put the red blanket on the living room floor.
What a great idea! Was it a fun moment?
Very fun! We had to change plans, but we had a great time.
You ate the tasty sandwiches, listening to music on the couch!
It was a special and beautiful indoor picnic!
This reminds me of a famous Italian tradition.
Are you referring to the nice holiday of Easter Monday?
Exactly Easter Monday! Italians always have a picnic.
Even if the weather is bad, and there is a lot of rain?
Exactly! If it rains, people do not give up on good food.
They have the picnic on the balcony, or in the living room at home!
Yes, rain does not stop the desire, to be together happy.
So changing plans is a normal art in Italy!
Now we study in detail, our six phrases of today.
The first phrase is our star: change plans.
The phrase change plans, means changing a decided program.
Like in my story: if the weather changes, we must change plans.
The second useful phrase is it is raining.
The phrase it is raining, indicates rain falls now.
That is we see fresh water, coming down from the sky now.
The third important phrase is have a picnic.
The phrase have a picnic, means eating outdoors in nature.
The fourth common phrase is stay at home.
The phrase stay at home, means not going out and staying inside.
The fifth pleasant phrase is watch a movie.
The phrase watch a movie, means watching a nice story on TV.
And the sixth expressive phrase is what a pity.
The phrase what a pity, is used to show disappointment about something.
Now let us play a fun little game!
What kind of game do you want to play today with me?
Imagine this situation: it is Sunday, and it is raining. What do you do?
I prefer to stay at home, and watch a nice movie.
I instead prefer to put on a jacket, and go to the museum downtown!
Then I am part of the famous Team Giulia!

Now I have a question with a number for you, Giulia.
Tell me everything! I love numbers and curiosities.
How many Italians stay at home, if it rains on the weekend?
I try to guess. Maybe forty percent?
I read that, about sixty-five percent, prefers to stay at home!
Sixty-five percent? That is a very high percentage!
Yes! Many people love the comfort, and warmth of home.
And what do people love to drink, when outside it is raining?
I read that seventy percent, loves to drink hot chocolate!
How wonderful! A hot chocolate is perfect, when it is raining.
Great Marco! Now let us do our practical test.
I am ready! Ask me your useful questions.
First scenario. You wanted to go to the beach, but the sky is gray.
I answer right away: What a pity, today we must change plans!
Excellent! Let us move to the second practical scenario.
I am focused. Tell me the second scenario.
You see drops of water on the window glass. What do you say to your brother?
I tell him right away: Look outside, it is raining hard!
Very good! Third scenario. The sun is shining and the air is warm.
I say with enthusiasm: Guys, let us go to the park to have a picnic!

Ninth scenario. You are at the park with sandwiches, but you see the rain.
I warn everyone: Friends, it is raining, we can no longer have a picnic!
Tenth scenario. You changed plans, and now you are indoors.
I say to everyone: We can have a picnic at home, and watch a movie!
Eleventh scenario. The soccer match, was canceled because of the rain.
I comment with my teammates: What a pity, we must change plans!
Twelfth scenario. It is Saturday night, and outside it is raining hard.
I conclude happily: The best choice is to stay at home, and watch a movie!
Thirteenth scenario. You bought tickets, but it is pouring rain.
I say calmly: No matter, we must change plans, and stay at home.
Fourteenth scenario. Your friends ask what to do, if the park is wet.
I answer right away: We can have a picnic in the garage, or stay at home!
Fifteenth scenario. You would like to walk, but water comes down hard.
I affirm with confidence: Look, it is raining, I prefer to stay at home!
Sixteenth scenario. The train for the trip, is late because of rain.
I say to everyone: What a pity, we must change plans, and take the bus!
